Carbon, Not Just Black
Onyx is a banded variety of chalcedony, and though it naturally occurs in various colors, the solid black stone commonly sold today is almost always dyed a practice that's been used since ancient Rome to stabilize and deepen the color of naturally lighter banded agate.
Paired here with Obsidian, a volcanic glass formed when lava cools too fast to crystallize, the necklace combines two very different black materials one mineral, one glass on the same oval and round chain.
Good for someone who wants a monochrome piece with two distinct materials behind the same color.
