Description
Plumes Trapped in Silica
Plume Agate forms when mineral-rich fluid usually iron or manganese oxide spreads through cavities in rock before the silica around it fully hardens, freezing the plume-like patterns mid-drift. Unlike banded agate, no two plume formations move the same way twice.
This piece was sourced from the Alpine, Texas area, known for producing several named varieties including Red Plume, Bouquet, Black Plume, and Pom-Pom Agate this one showing the Red Black tone.
Good for a collector who wants a larger display piece with visible internal movement rather than flat banding.
